The Blow Unplugged poster campaign

Concept, design

For The Blow’s 2014 “Unplugged” tour, I conceived of a series of posters with copy written directly to each city. For the “Unplugged” performance, we performed for the first time without using a laptop, playing stripped-down songs from the extended Blow catalog using our newly developed rig of modular synthesizers. The joke was that the songs were minimal and the production of the sounds required dozens of cables being plugged and unplugged. After having toured throughout the United States many times we’ve been able to develop a feeling for each town and the scenes that inhabit them. With the unique posters, it felt possible to say something, with feeling, to each place.

A section of my copy for the press release:
”A lot of plugging and unplugging will be happening. There will be, however, no plugging in of laptops, video projectors, smoke machines, animatronic singing dolls, or acid effect liquid light shows. There will be two women standing across from each other creating waves of frequency and sensation that pulse back and forth between them. Viewers are welcome to plug themselves into this circuit and feel it.”
