I skateboarded through a beer commercial once, it was fun and lucrative and they let me wear a disguise. Off-camera is more my speed, though: where the ideas get hatched and we figure out what is the heart of this thing? Everything has a heart—brands, companies, creative projects made only for love. I do copywriting, naming, art direction, and develop voice and messaging as a form of translation, leaning an ear up close to the chest of whatever it is and finding the words and images to convey it. I’ve worked with social media startups, health care technology companies, advocacy orgs, and arts and media groups, and the company I skateboarded on camera for produces a popular light beer.
